If you have a local Head Start program, you can call the supervisor that oversees their Family Services component and arrange through them to give food to those families that live below the poverty level. Each Thanksgiving, a group of us gives 10 turkeys and all of the trimmings to 10 families with children in Head Start. If you have a large Head Start program in your area with several centers, you can take the food to their main office and their Family Service Specialists can deliver the meals for you.
You'd be surprised at the number of poor families who would rather go without than go to a Food Bank for help.
