The draft was a foregone conclusion as soon as the first bomb dropped on Baghdad.

"We" invaded a country with a population in excess of 25,000,000 people. What reasonable person could believe that success on the ground could be achieved with (approximately) 125,000 troops? Our troops aren't just facing an opposing "army", they are facing an opposing population.

The fact that there are "subcontractors" for security (and other traditional military functions) should show that there were not and are not enough troops to fulfill mission needs.

At present I am waiting for the "Gulf of Ton-kin" type incident that will "justify" the war spilling over the boarders of Iran (or somewhere else, ie. N. Korea). An expanded war would be all the justification needed to justify the draft.
