1. Good analysis
I think that the US militaristic/imperialistic tendancies are fast becoming an anacronism. Modern established states, such as Europe, realize that the new power will not be military but economic. The emerging superpowers in this field realize this too, I think. Even Inida has not upped the tensions over Kashmir lately, and China and Brazil want things peaceful because they realize that peace brings economic prosperity.

The US will very likely be passed by in this new economic age, and if we try to start a rumpus, the economic plug will be pulled, if this hasn't already been decided upon to do. Frankly, I think the only reason we are still being propped up by Europeans and other investors is their fear of what Bush might unleash militarily. However, these same people know that time and intelligence is on their side, and I am sure plans are being made to keep the US in check and out of the economic mainstream.
