To retort your statement "although most DUers seem to think everyone who voted for Bush is a knuckle-dragging Nazi", this is not entirely true.
A list of why people voted for Bush;
1) Their church told them to do so.
2) People were scared out of their wits with the threats of terror and the (phony) Bin Ladden tape.
3) Not for the country's sake, but for their own personal short term gains. Not that they may have much of a country to use this new found wealth in (which is really scary because many of these people dam well know better).
