2. Yes on Miers--Maybe Not on Roberts
I think Roberts is going to figure out quickly--if he hasn't already concluded--that he has his own star to shine. He, more than the associate justices, will be able to exert his own personality and intellect. Now, which direction he goes as he matures in his position is up for grabs, but I think he may well be a lot wilier than the Administration's handlers.
Miers is highly unlikely to be her own person--she is their solely by cronyism and she got to the WH in the first place solely by means of patronage. She has no paper trail and even worse, she has a reputation for playing her cards close to the vest. That is a characteristic of her behavior over decades--so it's not likely to change as she settles in at the SC.
