Isn't it obvious at this point that he wants to be seen as a moderate on social issues. He doesn't want to play the typical game of getting out there and dividing people.

That way he can talk about the two issues that are most important to Americans in the fall. First, the economy and social issues; second, the war.

These are issues the President is actually vulnerable on.

Guns, confederate flags, etc. These things won't win us shit. But the economy, the war, etc. will.

Dean is smart. The others just fell into his trap. He doesn't WANT to diffuse this. He wants it out there. He wants people to say, "hey that Dean isn't so liberal."

He'll still get the support of the Jesse Jacksons. He's still getting the support of the unions. And in the general, he'll have all his issues lined up for him.

Dean is thinking long term. The other Democrats are thinking about this week. Saving their own asses.
