1. It keeps the focus on the intelligence issues including the pre-war intelligence failures and exaggeration, and the CIA agent leak.
2. By complaining about the "politicization" of intelligence, they are setting themselves and the Administration up to be judged by this very standard. Hoist by their own pitard.
Keep talking about it guys, you're argument may be effective to "the choir"... But to the opposition, including undecided and swing voters, this may do some serious damage to their credibility.
Personally, I think the memo may have been intentionally leaked for this very reason. I haven't read enough of the details, so I may be jumping the gun here.
