4. The reason more don't see him as viable has unfortunately to do with
cowardice and political immaturity. The Democratic Party is not primarily composed of people willing to stand up and fight for what they believe in. (In fact, it's not even composed of people who even have a clear understanding of what they believe in.)

Thus, you can have this pitiful phenomenon, where people will almost entirely ignore a thinker with vision like Dennis, even though his program most closely matches what many people really want. At the same time, the party faithful welcome with open arms a moderate Republican like Clark, or a centrist like Dean. They unquestioningly accept the idea that Dennis is "not electable," for superficial reasons having everything to do with personality style & physical appearance, & nothing to do with careful evaluation of what he stands for.
