In New Orleans, Tues nite. Pics of protests and war projected in background during song Jubilee. All leading up to turning point when song builds and she begins singsing "Let freedom ring" over and over. I start yelling and was taken by surprise that the whole place was joining me.

What a sheer joy. The rock and roll performance coupled with political solidarity. Really quite uplifting, as was nearly the entire show. The 10-12 minute piece Gandhi, alone, was almost worth the 2 hour drive and probably recieved the loudest, most extended applause of the evening.

I'm thinking, depite all the sense of "the worm turning" here at DU, this is still somewhat rare in Amerikan public spaces. But boy would I be happy for y'all to tell me otherwise....
