2. Is your SO a boy or a girl?
I'm a female, so that's the kind of advice I have. Since I don't know you, here are some general suggestions. Any of them look interesting?

First of all, the most important thing (to me, at least) is effort. I don't care if all I get is a note on the back of an envelope, as long as it's from the heart. Once a guy lit dozens of candles all over the house and sprinkled rose petals on the bed. Cheap, beautiful, and tres romantique.

Secondly, if you give flowers, try to avoid the carnation/baby's breath crap. We know you get them at Safeway. Find something exotic or special, like a potted orchid or a single gardenia blossom. Or have flowers delivered to her - this gets huge points, especially if she receives them at work in front of other people.

What does she like? What are you good at? Mix 'n' match. Write a silly poem, or make a coupon good for a massage or home-cooked meal. Make a mix tape of songs that will make him laugh. Plant flowers in a pot or small garden bed.

Buy tickets to a show or concert. Agree to take your SO to do something he loves but you don't. Put a photo collage or album together with funny captions.

One other idea: what does this person complain about, wish they could change about their life, house, car, etc? Do it, arrange it, take care of it, fix it.
