Dreaming of St. Peter

I’m gonna raise a little hell when I get home

The road to glory is hard and long

I’ve got a little Bible in my pocket
I take it out and read it every day
That’s so when I meet St Peter
I’ll know the right things to say

I dreamed I met St Peter
Right outside of heaven’s door
St. Peter took one look at me
And said, “what did you even stop by here for?”
He said “man you know you were crazy!
What in the world was wrong with you?
If you thought you could talk your way into heaven…
Well boy you’ve got some talking to do!”

I said, “won’t you please St peter,
Help me to understand
Why everything that looks good and feels good is
Somehow a sin for man?”

And I don’t get you St Peter
You’re always blaming someone else
How come you and all these angels
Ain’t down there saving mankind from himself?”

Now St Peter thought for a moment
Deciding exactly what to do
I thought he was going to let me into heaven
Instead, he sent me back down here with you
