For at least 3 decades my siblings and I turned away every Thanksgiving from the dreaded candied sweet potatoes with the crappy marshmallow syrupy s**t served for dinner.

A couple of years ago, one of my aunts found this recipe for garlic mashed sweet potatoes. All you need to do is add garlic to your liking and some butter to mashed sweet potatoes. Actually, you don't need the butter, use a little bit of broth to help fluff them up (and is much healthier, IMHO). Damn that was good. I even turned on my siblings to it, and I think one of them had seconds.

This is one of two ways I will eat sweet potatoes or yams -the other way is roasted, plain, even better when I put them on the grill. And garlic sweet potatoes is what I am serving on this Thanksgiving day.
