15. They weren't wealthy in the old days
Between the Syd years and DSOTM, they were pretty much a cult band. Notice how skinny they were in these photos. Don't assume they ate three squares every day.

They did get to do a fair amount of movie soundtrack work (Zabriskie Point, plus the More and Obscured by Clouds collections), which has been a life-saving gig for many an experimental rock band over time. But they didn't get major royalty checks until DSOTM, and then they ploughed a lot of that money back into building the stage show.
