But according to the account I just read in Latest News Forum, it looks like the jury simply couldn't agree on the degree of the murder charge. The defense gambled on murder all the way and no chance of a lesser charge such as manslaughter.

So, perhaps they WOULD have convicted on a lesser charge. Looks like the defense strategy paid off.

Was discussing famous verdicts with another DUer just tonight. I still don't think any other is as bad as the Rodney King verdict. I recall exactly where I was when I heard that verdict announced. I was NOT expecting it and was absolutely stunned. I said out loud to myself - "OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. There will be hell to pay for this." And there was .....
