The one I had at 3 had little plastic rings instead of strings, and one I had at 9 really was a string bikini. The one I had at three my parents bought for me, the one at 9 i picked out myself. I loved two pieces because I stayed in the water until I really had to go to the bathroom, and I didn't want to struggle with a one piece. I wouldn't have cared if I had lost my top at age 3 (by age 9 I had breasts and some concept of adult modesty and shame), and quite frankly nobody else would have cared if I had).
I don't think anybody thought I looked "sexy" at age 5, becaue I was a five year old, plain and simple. I had an early love for lacy and silky things, which grew into my adult love of lingerie, but I don't feel that I was sexualized because I had these things. The adults around me really did just think I looked cute.
