1. A little tale about that song...
One of our activities around the holidays was, before my grandparents started shuffling off this mortal coil, singing and playing guitars at one of my grandparent's homes in Beaumont or Hemphill. When that song came out (I believe it was on Mr. Keen Jr.'s LP "Gringo Honeymoon") my dad started playing it at the annual Thanksgiving and/or Christmas gatherings. The first time he played it, the rest of the family loved it, and begged him to play it again. So he did. Little did we know that we had released a monster. Over the next decade that song was played so often at family gatherings that the first line of it made my dad, my brother, and I wince in pain when we'd hear it on the radio or elsewhere.

Its weird, but even with my grandparents gone, I still cannot reminisce fondly about that song. It must be some sort of Pavlovian reaction, because every time I hear it, I want to leave the room.
