The last debate I heard was over the warning label system. Companies like RockStar were trying to cheat the voluntary label system by creating games that they could market at a lower rating, then hiding programming that could be unlocked by mods to increase the violence or sexuality of the game. No one was trying to limit them or ban them, they were simply claiming that RockStar had to put honest labels on their games if they were going to use the labeling system. That would be like someone making vegetarian chili and slipping meat into it, or someone putting peanuts into a product without labeling it.
Is there some new video game debate I haven't heard?
