So to win the bet I need USC to win by 8 points or more to cover the spread of 7. So it could be written both ways, either as USC -7, or OSU +7. They each mean the same thing, that OSU is being spotted 7 points.

The spread is a fiendish way to bet on football, but a lot more fun (and difficult) than just picking winners straight out. Without the spread you should get at least 10 games a week right in the NFL. With it, anything over 65% correct is doing very well.

Awsi Dooger down in the Sports Forum is a wiz on these things. I need to start hitting him up for tips. :)
