63. Englander, sir, I still don't understand what Peters or anybody

else has to do with any of this.

Gilbert is Churchill's official biographer.

Just because a quote shows up in a book or on a site that YOU think is "right wing", whatever that means these days (?) doesn't mean it's innaccurate, didn't exist, or somebody (implication) just made it up out of thin air.

Churchill led the opposition to the White Paper of 1939. He made a speech, May 23, 1939, to the House of Commons, in which he also said:

"'...I could not stand by and see solemn engagements into which Britain has entered before the world set aside for reasons of administrative convenience...." Churchill made the comment in his speech against the White Paper which stipulated an end to Jewish immigration to Palestine in five years by a majority decision of the population.'" (winstonchurchill.org)

I do not believe Gilbert - or Peters for that matter - is making this up. Is that what you are implying? Or are you implying that, because YOU do not approve of a website's putatitve political orientation, or the books, that the comment isn't valid?

You can't just ignore history because you don't like the sources quoted.

Meanwhile, let's see what else was going on in 1939, It won't all fit here so please see the following post(s). I think it's important to put the struggle over the White Paper, and Churchill's opposition, and the desperate situation of the Jewish people both in Europe and under attack in the Mandate, into perspective.
