Week-Old House Republican Leader Now Implicated in Culture of
Corruption

WASHINGTON -According to a late-breaking Associated Press story this
afternoon, newly-appointed House Republican Leader Roy Blunt was
involved in a campaign finance scheme involving Tom DeLay, Jim Ellis,
and scandal-plagued super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff - all of whom have been
indicted on corruption charges in unrelated cases.

In 2000, Blunt and DeLay, the recently indicted former House Republican
Leader, conspired to funnel campaign money to family members and conceal
the identity of their political contributors, which likely include
Abramoff and at least one of his clients, a sweatshop in the Northern
Mariana Islands.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement saying the
involvement of the newest House Republican leader in this latest
campaign finance scandal is evidence of just how entrenched the
Republicans' culture of corruption in Washington, DC is.

"Roy Blunt has been the House Republican Leader for six days and
already he has been implicated in a troubling campaign finance scandal,"
said DNC Chairman Howard Dean. "Seems that while the names in the
Republican leadership keep changing, their culture of corruption remains
firmly in place in Washington, DC. The American people want more from
their leaders, and Democrats are going to reform Washington. We are
going to change the way business is done in Washington, and we are going
to end the culture of corruption and restore responsible governance."
