80. My first Presidential election in TN
I went early this morning with Ma (buddyhollysghost, for those who don't know), my brother, and my brother's friend. This is a tiny community (we have two voting booths at our polling place--yes, two). We didn't expect a line at all, but there were about 20 people in front of us. That may not sound like much, but it's a heck of a lot around here, especially at 8:00 in the morning.

Everybody knows everybody, and this old guy in front of me got into a conversation with the woman behind me, talking about how some people wanted to do away with the electoral college. He said that that would "help all them Mexicans and blacks get the person they wanted in there." I was seething inside, but I didn't want anything to get in the way of my voting, so I just held my tongue. Besides, if you look on a map of the 2000 election, you see a bunch of purplish red counties, with one solid blue county smack dab in the center. That's us. There's no way the mountain folks up here will go for Bush, so I wasn't worried about it.

After standing in line for about ten minutes, I finally got my ballot (touchscreens? Ha! Did I mention we have two voting booths?) Never having used a punchcard before, it took me a second to figure it out, but I carefully punched the holes for the dem candidates. I was done...but they didn't have any "I Voted" stickers! I really wanted that sticker, too. :grr:

Oh well, I guess my DU avatar will have to do. :7 :kick:
