54. I agree that the message he is sending is callous
to say the least. After the world stood by us and mourned for the dead in the WTC, Pentagon and Pennsylvania attacks, including world leaders coming to the US to see the horror and pay their respects, Bush could do some sort of gesture that shows that we mourn for them in this time of unimaginable grief as they did for us with a true sense of sympathy and unity. Whether it is sending Powell, FEMA, or in a perfect world - Bush himself to tour the damage and devastation - the gesture must be more than a statement and some minimal cash.
Want to win the hearts and minds of some Muslims? Act like you care when thousands are washed off the face off the earth, within a matter of minutes. I know not all the victims were not Muslim, but it might be a good idea to show concern and compassion for people of many faiths.
A visit to the area would do so much for our image as selfish, unconcerned bullies. Perhaps someone should be thinking past the next two weeks of Bush's R&R and look at the big picture of how we are perceived as being concerned only with things that affect us directly.
