5. That's what I meant -
all it takes is a funny little man who's prepared to say anything, because that's all it is: words.

Words that appeal to the lowest, basest instincts of their followers. They don't really have any power except the power to put lies in the newspapers and on the TV and in the minds of the gullible.

Hitler's followers still believed that "Total Victory" was just round the corner even as they cowered in a bunker as Berlin was pummelled into rubble by the Allies.

A more interesting example though is Ceaucescu, when his followers booed him at a rally (instead of the expected applause). That was the turning point. When his lies finally had no power then neither did he.
