Tx Gov Rick Perry at Bilderburg & Israel

From Texas Monthly Blog
Perry's New Friends
posted by Paul Burka

"One of the most famous annual gatherings of the world's elite is the Bilderburg Group, described on Wikipedia as "an unofficial annual invitation-only conference of around 130 guests, most of whom are persons of influence in the fields of business, media, and politics. The elite group meets annually at exclusive, four or five-star resorts throughout the world, normally in Europe, once every four years in the United States or Canada. It has an office in Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands. They met at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey for the June, 2007 meeting ... he contents of the meetings are kept secret and attendees pledge not to divulge what was discussed."

Texas Monthly columnist Paul Burka on the Texas Monthly blog asks why was Rick Perry invited? He then lists the other guests. Please look at the entire list on his blog.
I pulled out some familiar names. They include: James (Rick) Perry, governor of Texas, Kathleen Sibelius, governor of Kansas, Kristen Silverberg, Assistant Secretary of State, Ross Wilson, ambassador to Turkey, Paul Wolfowitz, World Bank (only until his resignation becomes final on June 30), Joseph Wood, adviser to vice president, Phillip Zelidow, ex-"9/11" Commissioner, Richard Holbrooke, Perseus LLC, Vernon Jordan Jr., Lazard Freres & Co., Henry Kravis, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). (Burka says "Now there's somebody Perry can talk to. TXU, coal plants, electricity rates," Henry Kissinger, Kissinger & Associates, Richard Perle, Ex-Defense Policy Board, and several others.

Then the new story that Gov. Rick Perry is headed to Israel to receive the Friend of Zion Award for his "leadership in homeland defense, border security, and economic development."

"Gov. Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry today left on a seven-day trip to visit the Middle East nations of Israel and Jordan. In Israel, Gov. Perry will receive the “Friend of Zion Award” from the Global Leadership Council for his leadership in homeland defense, border security and economic development. The award, which is given to “leaders who have played key roles in promoting the close alliance between America and the Jewish state,” will be presented during a ceremony in Jerusalem at the historic Western Wall Square."

"Perry is also scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and former Prime Minister and newly elected President Shimon Peres. In addition, he will meet with the Israeli Chief Scientist, Dr. Eli Opper, and several representatives of the aeronautics, defense systems, homeland security and biotechnology industries."

What are they grooming Rick Perry for--Vice President? This is the man who was not smart enough to go to Texas A&M University to become a veterinarian as Molly Ivins loved to tell.
Any opinions on Rick Perry's sudden interest in the international scene? Why is he suddenly receiving prestigious invitations where only the movers and shakers go and why getting awards for his pathetic accomplishments? Ol' Rick could only muster 39% of the vote to win the governorship. Do they need to make him look better to become a vice presidential candidate for the Republicans? Rick Perry in a national office is a bad dream....
