Some coverage of Dean's tour of the deep South...articles and pictures.

Howard Dean's tour of the South is not getting that much attention, but I did find a couple of articles about his trips to MS and LA. I have not seen national coverage of it, but then I have not been watching the TV as it sounds so inane.

I thought I would find more on a Google blog search, but I gave up on that. It is mostly PUMA type blogs attacking Dean. How in the world do they alway get to the top of Google blogs, while other worthwhile coverage suffers. Here is a search link to the blogs..annoying stuff.

Google blog search.

I found something about his visit to Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dean in Shreveport

Democratic National Committee Chairman and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean visited Shreveport this morning as part of the national Register for Change bus tour.

Dean also stated that it was important to register voters who might have become disenfranchised in the last election and to register voters across the board. Dean spoke about the future of politics and how the Democratic party plans to reach out to the younger generation of Evangelical Christians through the three issues that most concern them: poverty, climate change, and Darfur, which are more of a Democratic party platform. He emphasized that this was the people's election and not the politicians-- and it was about neighbor-to-neighbor, friend-to-friend discussions.

Dean said that it was time to move away from the Bush administration's divisive politics and move to a unified America. He said that although John McCain would offer another Bush term, Barack Obama wanted to be president of a unified America. A theme of the talk was that the election could and would only be won for the people and by the people, not for and by Washington. Dean said, "It's not me or Barack that's going to win this election, it's you that's going to win this election."

After the talk Dean took questions from the press (including KSCL!) and that coverage will air soon. For more information on Louisiana campaigning for Obama, please visit http://laforobama.blogspot.com/

There is a photo gallery of his trip there.

Then he was in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dean's tour hits Mississippi

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL Committee Chairman Howard Dean right, shakes a few hands after addressing a crowd gathered at Tougaloo College in Jackson on Friday. (The Associated Press)

"Not only has the South changed a lot in the last 40 years - the Democratic Party has changed a lot, too," Dean said.

"This is a tough state for us," he said, but "we wouldn't be in these states if we didn't think we had a chance of winning."

According to the most recent polls, Republican nominee and Arizona Sen. John McCain is leading Mississippi with 50 percent 44 percent for Illinois Sen. Obama. McCain's support has seen a slight drop since the beginning of the year, while Obama has seen a slight increase, though.

"I think we have an uphill climb, but it's not impossible," Dean said.

This reaching out to the South is very important. I think it may be getting decent local coverage, but not national.

The best coverage of all was the very pissed off Texas Republican who as much as declared that Texas still belonged to them.
