46. This entire episode ...
... just strikes me as an enormous publicity stunt.

Think about it - the Dem Convention is a HUGE success, the choice of Biden is overwhelmingly well-received, the party emerges completely united, and Obama's acceptance speech rocks the world, to the point where even RWers are praising its impact.

Come Friday, McCain NEEDS to take the spotlight away from his opponent's success, and he can't go into his own convention without a VP pick for fear of looking indecisive.

So what's the best sure-fire way to get MSM attention, and get everyone talking about McCain instead of Obama? Announce a VP pick that is sure to get tongues wagging - pro or con at that point don't even matter; the fact is everyone's attention is drawn AWAY from the Dem ticket.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Palin was "in" on it. "Cause a stir now, drop out in a week or two after we have the MSM momentum back in our corner, and the publicity you'll garner for yourself WON'T exactly hurt your future career aspirations."

It all just smacks of a set-up to grab attention - and if Palin voluntarily withdraws, the GOP will still point to her nomination as demonstrating their "progressive" attitude by nominating a woman to high office. And they WILL trot that talking point out, you can count on it:

"It's too bad Ms Palin had to withdraw her name from the ticket due to (state altruistic reason here), but WE DID NOMINATE A WOMAN. It's not our fault it didn't work out."
