His diaper-wearing-for-prostitutes scandal has likely put him out of the running for any higher office, and possibly endangered his reelection possibilities. With Louisiana being one of the few states that actually trended more Repug with Obama on the ticket, Vitter is probably banking on getting out the wingnuts in 2010 order for him to hold his seat. He's a useful idiot for the Repugs, kinda like some fool like Inhofe, in that they can drag him out to show that the far right-wing is thoroughly represented in, even if largely irrelevant to, their party. But it's disappointing that LA's "red" trend may actually keep a jerk like Vitter afloat in '10. It was great to see Landrieu survive, but, generally, LA seems to be morphing into a solidly Repug state. I'm glad that they're largely out of step with the rest of the country in trending that way, though.
