DeGette and Bush Battle it Out
Advertisements [?]
This has been going on for a while now, but this week legislation sponsored by Congresswoman Diana DeGette to allow more stem-cell research is expected to receive a vote. President Bush has promised to veto the legislation if it passes. Here's the national coverage from the Associated Press, and here's the local version from 9News.

Opponents to the war in Iraq probably found this particular line in the 9News.com story more than a little ironic: Opponents to the bill say taxpayers who believe destroying an embryo is immortal should not have to pay for such research.

It's funny how in politics, sometimes the same lines get recycled for completely different issues.

And whatever your views on the subject, it's nice to see Colorado politicians at the forefront of some national issues, first with Congressman Joel Hefley earlier this year (in regards to congressional ethics), then with Senator Ken Salazar on the filibuster issue, and now with DeGette. The Washington Post details how DeGette was able to work both sides of the aisle to get a floor vote (hat tip to 5280 on the link).
