10. "Progressives" shouldn't let Mary Adams Win!
"Progressives" shouldn't let ultra-right-wingers like Mary Adams and Grover Norquist win in Maine. It seems too many people are allowing emotion to give in to reason and real progressive principal. TABOR is a national right-wing import.
In real dollars and in most tax rate areas we are in the middle or nearer the bottom. It is only in mean taxes as percentage of income that we are high nationally, and that is because incomes are low here (and always have been). TABOR will do nothing to make the tax/budgeting changes we really need, it will squash local control of municipal budgeting, and it will hurt people. But I say that if it does pass, leave it alone and let it wreak the havoc that it brought to Colorado. And when Mainers have to pay for their own trash pick-up, when they have to shell out hundreds for their kids to play sports, when local officials are bound to rigid TABOR budgeting rules, when local officials will have to pay thousands to do local referendums to pass budgets, when our already-suffering roads continue to fall apart and can't be fixed, when college tuition skyrockets...then Mainers who voted for TABOR won't be able to bitch for a second, and just maybe they'll regret what they volunteered for and will think twice just like Colorado finally did.
