5. im into asian movies in general
i also like the fact that you used the term "movies". one of my peeves is when people talk about 'films' instead of movies. i just find it pretentious :)

i have found that asian movies in general are just generally so much BETTER than much of what i see coming out of the US. i find european films to be the worst imnsho. over and over again, when i rent european films, even those that are celebrated as great "films" i am almost always dissapointed. french movies especially just almost ALWAYS suck. i am still unsure about martyrs though. i just can;'t decide what to think about that movie. it was certainly gory, but i can't really say whether it was good. it's a draining experience to watch, though.

the UK is an exception imo. one recent british movie i saw was "doomsday" which is kind of an action-horror hybrid with nods to escape from new york, road warrior, etc. the fact that rhona mitra is astoundingly sexy helps too. 28 days later and 28 weeks later were also quite good i thought.

i have also seen some REALLY good movies coming out of mexico. in regards to lauded euro films, i refer to such as "run lola run" which was just OK, but was supposed to be SO good.

to give you a frame of reference, my all time favorite horror movie is The Exorcist (hands down). I also really like rosemary's baby, jacobs ladder, halloween, and the john carpenter remake of the thing

i did see one excellent scandinavian horror film recently "let the right one in" which is a moody, "slow burn" type horror film. just excellently done.

as far as asian movies go, one of my all time favorites is infernal affairs (not a typo). this movie was redone in the US as "the departed" and got great reviews. i thought it was a sucky lifeless remake, frankly.

asian action flicks just ROCK. their horror films constantly get remade in america (the grudge, the ring, etc.). korea, hong kong, japan, etc. put out some amazing movies.

have you seen infernal affairs? i strongly recommend it.

sorry, for babbling, but i am a big movie buff. i am also on a short term disability from work (probably going to run about 4 months), so am wathcing a lot of movies. always looking for recommendations.
