7. The only reason why there is no playoff in Division I is because they haven't figured out how to
"pay" schools for playing football, like the bowl games do now.

In the current bowl game system, approximately 64 schools get "paid" to play in 32 bowl games. From several hundred thousand dollars for being a very low-tier bowl game, to around $15 million for one of the top 5 bowl games (Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, BCS Championship).

In a playoff system that takes the top 8, 10, 12 or 16, how do you figure who gets paid what, and do they get paid more the more playoff games they play? What about the lower 48+ schools that would have gotten some monies in the current bowl game system, but now are not because they aren't playing a playoff system?

I support a playoff system, and find it very interesting that Division I football is the only college sport that doesn't have a playoff or tournament to determine a national champion.

Any reason other than money is laughed off when one considers that Division I-AA, II, and III football programs do have a playoff system (called the FCS).
