but as someone who followed the USC investigation closely it looks like it was the other way around. Carroll left before the hammer came down. It was an ongoing investigation that looked at the entire athletic program to see if there was an overall lack of institutional control because of also the Mayo dealings where USC self-sanctioned their basketball program. I'm getting off track--around the time Carroll left, the investigation was finalizing and had a projected decision date sometime in the spring
