He's feeling betrayed because his minions are deserting him (too many to silence). Wondering whether it was all worth it, given that he doesn't have that much time left. Feeling his age. Angry and depressed, with shock, sadness, and a bit of wistfulness underneath (how could this have happened?). Some degree of fear that he will be called to account (though he would never show or admit it).

He is starting to flail around in public because he feels the loss of control, of things slipping out of his grasp. But his anger and extreme resentment still keep him focused at times. He feels cornered, and is still plotting. A very dangerous man, even in a weakened state.

Lashing out in private. Full of self-pity and indignation. Thought he was master of the universe, and now everything he built is crumbling.
Feeling the passage of time, and the loss of respect and entitlement. Embarassed by the loss of face (for him, his wife and his daughter).
