25. I Was Bitten By A Black Snake A Couple Of Weeks Ago....
my FIRST experience of such a close encounter. I'm a female, although not one who's all the prissy, but while walking across my lawn the bugger just bit me. It didn't run away, and I just looked back to see what I had bumped into because it didn't even hurt! Here in Florida, black snakes are protected and we never run them off, they keep a lot of bugs and tree rats away I think. I know I have 2 running around the house most of the time, but this was in the yard.

It poked it's head up kind like a prairie dog and stayed there looking at me as I looked back at it. What really surprised me was my non-reaction to the whole event. I would have thought a natural reaction would be to kind of "freak" but I just went about talking to my neighbor who had called me over.

Obviously, black snakes are not poisonous but I thought I should find out what I needed to do because it actually bit me 2 times in a very quick time. It did bleed, but NEVER even bothered me in any way, but I was told I needed to get a tetanus shot. So I did.

I have never been very afraid of snakes myself, but I do think had it been a more lethal snake, I probably would have gone to the doctor right away. I was always taught, snakes DON'T seek you out, they just react when you come upon them. It's THEIR fear that makes them bite you.

Just thought I would share, it was a new experience for and I really don't know why I was so calm about it.
