Does Your State Issue A Voter ID Card?
Advertisements [?]
I used to live in Florida. Maybe not now, but back then, the county or state issued a Voter Identification Card which had some of your particulars printed on it.

We moved to West Virginia years ago. We registered to vote here immediately of course. This state also issued us a Voter Identification Card. It has the same information on it the old Florida card had - Name, date of birth, address, Precinct, Date of issue, and a number which presumably refers back to my position on some master list somewhere.

Each of the cards was free. I do not recall that I had to show any sort of ID to get either one; that was then, this is now.

I ask this question because some states are now requiring state-issued ID to vote. I have always presumed that the officials at the voting place could demand to see my card anytime they wanted to. So I always take it to the polls with me. No one has ever asked to see it (current card issued in 1996).

What if anything does your state give you when you register?
