...that refrigerators use coolants, and coolants are a touchy area in environmental law. Indeed, the compressor in your refrigerator cannot even legally be placed in a landfill without all sorts of certified efforts aimed at keeping whatever coolant it used from escaping into the atmosphere, among other myriad laws and regulations regarding their disposal.
More info about the precise nature of the problem regarding the refrigerator in question would be helpful to those of us here who might be able to formulate an answer.
