31. Clinton intrended there to be fair trade
He didn't intend for corporations to rape and exploit the world, and he didn't intend for countries to let them either. I'm sure you remember the harping from the business community that they weren't bad guys, really they weren't, trust them. NAFTA was based on that trust, along with side agreements and the laws in Canada and Mexico. NAFTA isn't really bad, in and of itself. If Mexico had implemented better worker protections, taxed better, what have you, maybe there would have been a different result. We certainly should have been more insistent, I think Al Gore would have been.

But the point is when you don't differentiate between Tom Delay's Mariana Islands and Democrats' honest desire for fair trade, you play right into the hands of the right. And that's exactly what Lou Dobbs does. He gives people an outlet for their anger, but he never heads people in the direction we need to go to change anything. Ever notice that? And now, he's going to blame Clinton and Democrats, who are the only hope to ever get to truly fair trade.

So after 5 years, what has Lou Dobbs accomplished? Nothing. Except to convince people there's no economic hope, so they might as well vote on their moral values and elect Republicans again.

He's not our friend.
