While we're at it, let's wait for a pink unicorn to pick us up and take us to the polls on election day.

I agree with the OP. I think that the fact that DK is running — despite the fact that, yes, he does not stand a chance in hell — is enough. The Democratic presidential debates are the furthest leftward of my lifetime — or at least as long as I've been old enough to be interested in primary debates (since the '00 election). And I blame this year's leftward trend entirely on Gravel and Kucinich. Without them, the Dems would be ranting about terror and freedom and fill-in-your-platitude=here, and we'd get killed by the GOP in the general.
