In it Senator Clinton addresses some questions via the web. The last one is a lengthy answer about suicide and depression among gay teens. The link below that shows why it is such an important issue. Gays make up 30% of suicides and also 30% of gays and lesbians attempt suicide. To put it in mathematical terms say you know 10 gay people. There is a 2% chance that none of them tried to commit suicide. There is a 12% chance 1 did. There is a 23% chance 2 did. There is a 26% chance three did. There is a 20% chance 4 did. There is a 10% chance 5 did. There is a 4% chance 6 did. There is just under 1% chance 7 did. Figures are using binomial distrubution. In a country of approximately 18 million gays (6% of 300 million) there would be an expectation of 5.4 million of them attempting suicide. That is one suicide attempt per day, every day, for 14,500 years. Or one suicide attempt every single day since 12,000 years before Jesus walked the earth.

In the 18 years since the report I cite the gay rights movement has made tremendous strides. But we will be one of history's worst failures if we can't reverse those numbers. It does take a village to raise up a gay teen. This issue will matter no matter who is our next President. 5.4 million of your brothers and sisters matter.
