I find broad brush characterizations of any extensively denominated religion as a "religion of peace" (as opposed to any other religion) to be overtly secular rather than sectarian. Thus, such a characterization seems solely political rather than theological and is antithetical to amity among people of various faith traditions. Being antithetical to amity, it is thus an exploitation of the superficials (secularized motifs) primarily for the sake of exacerbating division. That, then, creates a contradiction - a reductio ad absurdum which betrays the fallacy of the claim.
