78. Can't say that her comments helped my opinion of her
My general impression isn't that positive. She had an affair with a man who had been married for 18 years with three children. I sympathize with her personal challenges with drug addiction and health problems. However, her self-righteousness in the wake of the grossly distorted Michelle Obama comments about being proud of America smack not of true patriotism but of self-serving nationalism. And I have more respect for a woman like Michelle Obama who has achieved success privately and professionally because of her intellect and drive. Cindy reminds me a little of Dubya and Molly Ivins comment concerning him: "He was born on third base and acts like he hit a triple."
However, the personal attacks on First Ladies do tilt toward the ridiculous. Baking cookies. Hair styles. Dresses. And our obsession with their "causes". Remember poor Nancy Reagan desperately attempting to find her cause? She had the ill-fated "Foster Grandparents" program which she let fade away before she stumbled into the "Just Say No" campaign.
It's time to drag the whole First Lady brand into the 21st century. And Cindy is NOT the woman to do that. Michelle is.
