A Thank You To DU Men

A Thank You to DU men, who stand with women on issues of civil rights, personhood, reproductive rights and privacy and especially to those who act upon that support and speak up in solidarity on DU.

One, who I will not call out and he knows who he is, did so yesterday and somehow in the ensuing subthread being deleted for mysterious reasons, his initial supportive comment was also removed. This means that the gratitude expressed was also deleted. It's a shame if thanking those men who DO visibly support women's rights on DU, is seen as detrimental to those who don't (speak up) or pointing out the rarity of it. Yet it is remarkable.

Some who are strong and active supporters also downplayed the actual impacts and effect -- immediate and potential -- and precedent setting aspects of the StupidPact Amen-dment.

It may be a stretch, to ask people, males, to consider what it would be like if it were their life, their body, that is used as battleground, bargaining chip, political baggage, belittled and bound to be considered less than fully human, not fully invested with the rights of citizenship. (Damn I wrote something rilly rilly good and it was disappeared....) African Americans -- at least the women and many of the men -- understand what I'm talkin' about and I would not make too close comparisons to being officially considered "3/5ths of a person" but what the hell!! Corporations are more fully recognized as persons than women are! And to many many of the birth bigots, zygotes are more valuable human beings than the women who bear them are.

No. If you are male and you wanna talk strategery and who the next SCOTUS appointment is and tell us it "didn't change anything" and it was "symbolic," not only are you mistaken about what the amendment does LEGALLY, you are oblivious to what it does perceptually and in terms of precedent and possible future harm, because YOU DO NOT HAVE A FEMALE BODY.

The worst aspect is that this piece of shit AMEN-dment came from a "Democrat."

So, thank you, men who get it. Thank you for being here and thank you for the times that you speak up on behalf of people who just happen to have that Y chromosome and the power to give life.
