White House Correspondents Association says World Net Daily lawsuit is 'futile'

White House Correspondents Association President Ed Chen said Wednesday that a lawsuit being threatened by World Net Daily over its inability to get three tables to the dinner is "futile."

"The association has seen countless and creative efforts to improve one's circumstances at the dinner; all of them have been futile. This latest ploy will end with the same result," Chen, a reporter for Bloomberg, told POLITICO.

World Net Daily announced on its website Tuesday night that was suing the association, contending that it was denied tables because the conservative site – which is a prominent outlet of the birther movement – has “carried commentary critical of the president.”

World Net Daily is being provided three seats for the event.

Pointing out that the dinner is the "most prestigious event of the year," the complaint says that it "enhances a news outlet's prestige to rent tables at and attend the event and is a must to maintain a news outlet's, such as WND's, reputation."

"News outlets who do not get sufficient access to the event are seen as 'lesser' and unimportant in the media world," the complaint says.

World Net Daily reported the suit but did not say where it was filed. It framed it as a contract dispute. "The complaint seeks specific performance of the contract that resulted when the association took the payment from WND…" the site reported.

Like Dangerfield, "They can't get no respect", but more importantly, World Net Daily's report card says, "Does not play well with others".
