Vallejo police released surveillance photos Thursday of a man suspected of stealing a 98-year-old woman's purse while she was shopping at a Safeway store last month.

The woman told police she put her purse in the child-seat area of her cart while shopping at the store at 709 Lincoln Road West on Sept. 30 and momentarily turned around. When she looked back at the cart, the purse was gone.

Police reviewed surveillance video and spotted a man pushing a shopping cart alongside the woman and then grabbing her purse, Sgt. Kenny Park said.

The suspect is a white man, possibly in his 30s or early 40s, with dark hair, a receding hairline, a mustache and goatee. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (800) 488-9383.
