I took her article as showing how conflicted she was, how hard it is to try to work something out and have it fail and have to resort to lethal measures.

For those that eat meat, have you ever raised and butchered a chicken? How about a pig? Pigs are long living and smart. Chickens not so smart usually, but we have some in the 10 yr range (elderly egg layers) that are living out their lives in peace.
