The simple fact is that securing the remaining oil resources on Earth is the number one priority for US leadership and State dept planners- always has been. Not only does this ensure that profits flow to US based energy companies, it also gives the US tremendous power over rivals like China, Russia, etc...
Here are a few things that I think Bush has proven time and again.
Oil is the highest priority. Human rights mean nothing. The domestic population is the enemy. Hatred of democracy. Lust for corporate profits.
