1. My husband was driven out my NCLB, standardized testing, and
parents and kids who couldn't care less about education. He was able to go into business as a computer repair guy, but in this economy it's been rough going. It's amazing how many teachers with a B.S. or Master's are working in other jobs now, if at all. Of the ones I know of, there was one managing a drug store, one working in a department store, and several working as Ed Tech 1s and 2s.

I never even bothered to apply for a job. Got my degree, did some subbing, had my kids, and then decided I didn't want a classroom after all. I do still get to work with kids though, through being a mom, a coach, and a KinderChurch teacher. (And once in a while I'm involved with the Cub Scouts.) Maybe you can find other ways to work with kids? I'm still teaching and helping kids grow, just in a different setting.
