John Sweeney seems to believe that our main problem with health care is the insurance companies. But it's only one of the problems. And if we don't deal with the others, I'm afraid that they will have to end up finding savings by giving much less care to seniors and the poor.

Why is Sweeney so naive? Who is it that gives the unions advice on what to do about health care? The only adviser I've know of is the questionable (IMHO) Jacob Hacker. He's the Berkeley prof who claimed that the problem with the Clinton plan was "that it didn't include enough handouts..." His idea for silencing the opposition of doctors was to "stuff their mouths with gold." People like Hacker, it seems to me, see working people as mere clients, not as neighbors. Not a good source of advice.
