The reason that the comment is offensive to some is that you linked being gay to being female or feminine, AND you linked being female or feminine to being weak or cowardly. It isn't necessarily an anti-gay sentiment, but it can definitely be looked at as sexist.

Right wingers see it as an insult because many believe the stereotype that all homosexuals are effeminate and that feminine qualities, are less valuable than male qualities. That insult only works if you believe that females are emotional and weak. Furthermore the use of "balls" as a sign of courage and strength is also sexist. Think about it this way, are you saying that people need testicles to be courageous? That leaves out over 50% of the population. I am being somewhat facetious here, but seriously, words carry implications and we have to be aware of what hidden messages they are communicating.

What the right wing is displaying here is a complete lack of ethics and character. They are cowards, but not because of gender or orientation. They are cowards because they lack the character and conviction to stand up to corporate greed and do what is best for people who are less powerful than large business entities.
