paved the way for Reagan's election.

Carter was left with the huge job of cleaning up after both Vietnam AND Watergate. It was too much for anyone to pull off in 4 years. Unfortunately, the policies begun in 1981 (and continuing to this day) have left our current President with a far bigger mess than the one Jimmy had. And he doesn't have the right people working on it, in most areas either, unfortunately.
